The Executive Council of the Socialist Republic of Serbia decided to construct a building which would live up to the standards of modern museological principles, and allots a location for it in New Belgrade, at the Sava-Danube junction, across the Belgrade Fortress.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"   style=\"height: 10px\"><span class=\"vc_empty_space_inner\"><\/span><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-213 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/h41.rs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/DSC_3716-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1560\" height=\"920\" \/><\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<div class=\"vc_empty_space\"   style=\"height: 40px\"><span class=\"vc_empty_space_inner\"><\/span><\/div>\n\t<div class=\"wpb_text_column wpb_content_element\" >\n\t\t<div class=\"wpb_wrapper\">\n\t\t\t<p>An open competition for the project of new building was announced in 1960. Architects Ivan Anti\u0107 and Ivanka Raspopovi\u0107 won the competition with a project for which they would later, namely at the opening ceremony of the Museum, be awarded the October Prize of the City of Belgrade for Architecture. After the construction of the new building was completed, the Council of the Modern Gallery passes a new name for the institution \u2013 the Museum of Contemporary Art. The first director of the Museum was Miodrag B. Proti\u0107. The theoretical and practical experiences of the most distinguished international museums of modern and contemporary art were taken into consideration in the process of the creation of Museum\u2019s guiding work principles.<\/p>\n<p>Museum\u2019s founder and its first director was Miodrag B. Proti\u0107, a painter and the author of many significant exhibitions, books and texts concerning the history of modern Yugoslav and Serbian art. The other directors of the Museum were: Marija Pu\u0161i\u0107 (1980\u20131984), Kosta Bogdanovi\u0107 (acting director, 1984\u20131986), Zoran Gavri\u0107 (1986\u20131993), Radisav Trkulja (1993\u20132001), Branislava Andjelkovi\u0107 Dimitrijevi\u0107 (2001\u20132013),Vladislav \u0160\u0107epanovi\u0107 (acting director, 2013\u20132014), Jovan Despotovi\u0107 (acting director, 2014\u20132015), Slobodan Nakarada (acting director, 2015\u20132020), Viktor Ki\u0161 (acting director, 2020\u20132021) and Marijana Kolari\u0107 (2021\u2013).<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Belgrade Museum of Contemporary Art was opened on October 20th 1965.
